Technology at MSS
Technology plays a role at Main Street School. All classrooms have one to two desktop computers and students are instructed in using technology resources in their school work. We also have a mobile lab of laptop computers that can be taken to classrooms around the building. Ms. Tabet works with students and staff at both Main St. and Lincoln St. Schools. It is our hope that students will see technology will truly be integrated into our curriculum.
From September through February second graders come to the Art room every other week on Fridays and receive instruction on the MacBooks. Lessons are planned with the classroom teachers who stay with their class along with Ms. Tabet, the Technology Coordinator. Students create a Tux Paint picture and then write a story to go along with it. Formatting their text, using proper spacing and upper & lowercase letters are all skills that are introduced during these sessions.
Students have also created word clouds via wordle.net or tagxedo.com and have used enchantedlearning.com for research on topics they are studying in class. TuxTyping is a free program that can be downloaded and used with primary students to learn the location of letters on the keyboard. This will help them once they get to third grade and have a school-provided account on typingpal.com.
The focus will be on Google Apps for Education (GAFE). Each studetn in SAU 16 has access to a Google Apps account that is managed by the district.
